This 2-day course is aimed at childminders, nursery staff, pre-schools, clubs, early years groups and carers of children either in the home setting or care home environment.
The course is designed to deal with emergency scenarios for people working with young children and infants. It is a practical course, which is delivered by our highly trained staff, who have many years of experience in delivering first aid training.
Course content which follows Health and Safety Executive regulations
and Ofsted course syllabus (as set out in their Early Years Framework (Annex A)
Role of the first aider
Assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take
Unresponsive baby or child who is breathing
Unresponsive baby or child who is not breathing
Choking in infants and young children
Dealing with bleeding and shock
We also cover illnesses that the attendees may come across in their workplace:
Poisoning (including a recap on COSHH)
Vomiting and diarrhoea
*Other topics that will be covered and how you treat a child suffering from the following:
Bites and stings
Effects of extreme heat and cold
Burns and scalds
Cuts, grazes, bumps and bruises including splinters
Injuries to the eyes, ears and nose
Also covered is completing records which relate to illnesses or injuries
Observation and Assessment
Practical skills are continuously observed and assessments are carried out throughout the course by our trainers. Our trainers are there to support, guide and ensure that all attendees understanding of the topics covered during the course.
